The
indian
paint research centre was inaugurated
on 30th July, 2004 by Shri Somnath
Chatterjee, Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
It is a unique venture in collaboration
with Jadavpur University and located at Salt
Lake, JU Campus, Kolkata.
The
Centre will focus on basic research to upgrade
paint technology and provide technical education
to students who wish to pursue a career in the
paint industry. It would collaborate with other
international research centers and ensure that
its functions are of global standards. Both the
Indian Paint Association and Jadavpur University
would focus on efforts to make the Centre a
world class role model of partnership between
Industry and Academia.
In
December 2004, IPRC organized a
5 days Appreciation Course on Paint
Technology at Kolkata. Altogether
48 candidates registered from all parts of India
including one from Nepal – Delhi, Mumbai,
Chennai, Mysore, Vizag, Trivandrum and Kolkata.
Painters
Training Programme was
organized between 7th and 12th
March 2004 at Lucknow under the Baroda Swarojgar
Vikas Sansthan sponsored by the Bank of Baroda.
Eighteen painters were trained in the various
methods and techniques of paint application. The
second training course in the series was
conducted at Gandhinagar for the western region
painters between 6 – 11 June, 2005. The third
course is scheduled from 25th to 30th
July 2005 for painters from the Eastern Region.
Such courses are being organised for all the
Regions to benefit painters and painting
supervisors from every part of the country.
Objectives
of the Centre are :
Immediate :
a) Testing of raw materials for paint
production and finished products.
b) Development
of paint processes, energy and environmental
conservation.
c) Providing
with the academic and infrastructural support of
IIPC, Jadavpur University.
Long Term :
a)
To undertake research activities for development
of coating systems involving the use of raw
materials and the end use of the coating
systems.
b) Integrating subjects of Polymer
Sciences and Paint Technology with the relevant
courses of the University at the Graduate and
Post Graduate levels.
c) Aspects of standardization, quality
audit, certification and accreditation to be
achieved.
